Ice Box Rolls
Make dough the night before or the morning of the meal. Make rolls 3 hours before serving
Ingredients
Scale
- 3/4 cup butter, softened to room temperature (1 + 1/2 sticks)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 egg beaten until light
- 1 package dry yeast
- 4 cups flour
Instructions
- Cream butter, sugar and salt. Pour boiling water over it and let cool.
- Add beaten egg and dry yeast. Stir flour into the mixture.
- Pour into oiled bowl, cover with wax paper sprayed with cooking spray and place in refrigerator for several hours or over night.
- Spray your muffin pan, jelly sheet or round cake pan with cooking spray. (continue reading below of how to choose which to use)
- At this point you have a choice of how you make your rolls. You can roll small balls and place 3 balls in each cup of a regular size muffin pan to make clover rolls OR you can roll the dough onto a floured surface about 1/2 inch thick and use a small round or square cookie cutter about 1″ to 1.5″ in size and then place them on a jelly sheet (cookie sheet with short sides) or a round cake pan, leaving a small space between each roll. Let rise in even temperature for two hours. (The dough will be touching or almost touching once they rise)
- Bake at 400° for 12-15 minutes or until a light golden brown on top.
