Award Winning Chili
Our church had a chili cookoff a few weeks ago (while it was still record breaking mid 90’s temperatures in October) and I won 3rd place.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 16-ounce cans light red kidney beans, drained
- 1 16-ounce can pinto beans, drained
- 3 14.5 ounce cans petite diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 pounds ground chuck
- 1 pound (roll) breakfast sausage
- 1 sweet yellow onion, coarsely chopped
- 1 green pepper, seeds removed and coarsely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- 4 Tablespoons 6 chili pepper powder (I found this at Kroger in the Premium Select brand)
- 1.5 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1.5 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1.5 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Completely cook ground beef and sausage together. Drain grease.
- Put all ingredients in Crock Pot in order listed. Stir once.
- Cover and cook on Low for 10-12 hours or High for 5-6 hours
- Top with whatever toppings you prefer (shredded cheddar cheese, chips, sour cream, etc)
