medium tart apples

9″ unbaked pie crust
1 cup
sugar
2 Tablespoons
all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon
ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon
ground cinnamon
2 Tablespoons
butter, melted
1/2 cup
orange juice
juice and rind or 1/2 lemon, grated
TOPPING
1/2 cup
sugar
3/4 cup
all-purpose flour
1/3 cup
butter
1/3 cup
pecans

Instructions
Pare the apples and grate on the coarse side of a grater; place in the pie shell
Mix the sugar, flour, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a saucepan; stir in the butter, orange juice, and the lemon juice and rind.
Over medium heat stir until the sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly and pour over the apples in a pie shell.
TOPPING:
Preheat the oven to 400°.
In a medium bowl, combine the sugar and flour. Cut in the butter, add the pecans, and mix until crumbly.
Sprinkle over top of the apples. Bake for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350° and bake for 30 minutes.
