Flavored Dessert Sauces (Lemon, Vanilla, Caramel, or Chocolate)

This is a great recipe to have on hand for many different desserts. Our favorite is the lemon sauce on gingerbread cake (we just use a box cake mix).

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon corn starch
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • pinch salt
  • flavoring

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar and corn starch (and cocoa if making chocolate)
  2. Add to boiling water stirring rapidly until clear.
  3. Add butter and flavoring and stir until butter is melted.
