Make dough the night before or the morning of the meal. Make rolls 3 hours before serving
Ingredients
Scale
3/4 cup butter, softened to room temperature (1 + 1/2 sticks)
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup boiling water
1 egg beaten until light
1 package dry yeast
4 cups flour
Instructions
Cream butter, sugar and salt. Pour boiling water over it and let cool.
Add beaten egg and dry yeast. Stir flour into the mixture.
Pour into oiled bowl, cover with wax paper sprayed with cooking spray and place in refrigerator for several hours or over night.
Spray your muffin pan, jelly sheet or round cake pan with cooking spray. (continue reading below of how to choose which to use)
At this point you have a choice of how you make your rolls. You can roll small balls and place 3 balls in each cup of a regular size muffin pan to make clover rolls OR you can roll the dough onto a floured surface about 1/2 inch thick and use a small round or square cookie cutter about 1″ to 1.5″ in size and then place them on a jelly sheet (cookie sheet with short sides) or a round cake pan, leaving a small space between each roll. Let rise in even temperature for two hours. (The dough will be touching or almost touching once they rise)
Bake at 400° for 12-15 minutes or until a light golden brown on top.
